Israel Celebrates 70 Years Since Rebirth With Jerusalem as Capital

Today is the 70th Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day. However, it isn’t the day that Israel was born. Rather, it is the day of Israel’s rebirth 70 years ago in its ancestral land, with Jerusalem as its capital. The day when the Jewish Nation celebrates its return to its homeland, after 2,000 years of exile. Yom Ha’atzmaut is a special day when Israel’s leaders gather in the holy capital to commemorate the special gift bestowed upon us by God through the efforts of our defense army. Breaking from tradition, PM to speak at 70th Independence Day ceremony

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to give a speech at the 70th Independence Day ceremony, making him the first Prime Minister in Israel’s history to do so.

Traditionally, the role of the main speaker at the annual torch-lighting ceremony on Independence Day is given to the Speaker of the Knesset.

A formal invitation to the ceremony from Netanyahu’s office has been sent out to multiple heads of state. Netanyahu has reportedly also spoken personally on the phone with some of them.
